CORPS LEAGUE DETACHMENT 680
Old Business: a. Minutes: A motion was made by Jesse Trevino and second by Jim Pickens to accept the minutes from the May 2010 meeting as printed in the Guidon. b. Paymasters’ Report: Motion to accept the report for May 2010 was made by Jim Pickens and seconded by Oliver Kline. The motion was carried. REPORTS: SR Vice: No report JR Vice: Excused from the meeting Adjutant: No report Judge Advocate: Nick reported that the controversy about Detachment’s Color Guard being authorized to wear Kaki or not still rages on. Sgt At Arms: Excused from the meeting Chaplains: Bob brought photos taken at Cayucos that were taken at the Burial at Sea ceremony on Memorial Day. Bob also reported that John O’Connell is doing well and that the card we all signed last meeting was sent. Committee Reports: a. MC Ball 2010: The next Ball committee meeting will be at Players in Atascadero on June 16th at 6:30 PM b. Toys for Tots: Lou Barnes said that all 13 districts were getting things up and running. c. Ray Bacon is taking charge of coordinating the trip to the Ronald Regan Library. The tentative time for the trip is a Saturday in August. d. Ushering at Cal Poly: Betty Cook passed around a signup sheet for the upcoming football games. New Business: 1. “MARINE CORPS DINING-IN” – Bob Prophet sent around a signup sheet. Time: 6:00PM, place the Marriott in Paso Robles, price $18.00 which includes tax and tip. 2. The annual 4th of July Parade in Cayucos is coming up. Everyone that can be there should be. This has always been a big deal for our Detachment. Muster at the school at 0730. Lou sent around a signup sheet. Good of the League and Announcements: The flag light that was purchased a year or so ago was auctioned off. Nick had the highest bid of $20.00 Tim Haley mentioned the following: 1. Pickens is the new Commander of the American Legion Post 66 2. Need to sell the gun safe or raffle it off; Budd has the brochure. We paid $500 for it. 3. Renewed paperwork with the APD for the rifles that are stored there. 4. Carlton Hotel made a donation that off-set the cost of the flag that was purchased. 5. Only need 10 more members to reach total roster of 200. (Editor’s note: we need more than that as we have lost several members and honorary members are not counted in the official roster. The current official count of regular & associate members is 179) 6. Rick, Budd and Tim helped in a sword detail at the wedding of a local Marine Drill Instructor, who was married at the Mission. Their presence was requested by Wayne Folsom. 7. Bob Clark had a Gall Bladder operation. 8. The Purple Heart Trail bank balance as of 6/8/10 was $9279.04. Current pledge is $4000.00 9. Tim is off to the MOPH convention in Monterey on Wed 6/9/10 to talk about our success with the Purple Heart program and Chuck Ward on the same day will be at SLOCOG to promote the idea of directionals. 10. Tim will be in Sacramento on Jun 23rd to participate in the Veteran of the Year Ceremony in the State Capital. (Editors note: for those of you who don’t know, Tim was awarded the Veteran of the year from this County.) 50/50 Drawing: $30 went to the treasury and $30 was won by Mike Baty. Jerry Booth won a Cold Bag. Benediction was given by our Chaplain Oliver Kline The Marine Hymn was sung.

CORPS LEAGUE DETACHMENT 680 1. Call to order 1900 2. Pledge of Allegiance. The pledge of allegiance was lead by Sgt At Arms 3. Invocation: Given by Asst Chaplain Bob Prophet 4. Roll Call of Officers: All officers present except Chaplain Oliver Kline who was excused. 5. Visitors and New Members: One of our newer members, Sean Frankie, was able to attend his first meeting tonight. Bob Prophet brought his grandson Jasper Utter as his guest. Jasper is a member of the Sea Cadets. Jasper gave us some information about the Sea Cadets. 6. Our guest speaker for this evening was Randy Dettmer. Randy is an award winning architect, builder and Cal Poly instructor. He gave a slide presentation on a facility being built west of Yosemite Valley for disabled vets. The project was developed in conjunction with Jon Monnet and Robert Barron, both instrumental in founding the new "Quality of Life Plus (QL+) Center on the Cal Poly campus, a facility for research and development of prostheses for individuals who have experienced injuries from weapons, explosives or fire. The goal is to engineer the best orthotics on a case by case basis; with the latest electronic and mechanical innovations; fitted to the exact individual for maximum usage. The facility will provide a home for training disabled veterans to use heavy equipment industry in conjunction with new prosthesis. The remote location just outside of Yosemite National Park was designed by Cal Poly fourth year architectural design students. The facility will also allow for engineering students to conduct field work on their developmental designs. Old Business: a. Minutes: The minutes from the Apr meeting was corrected to read that the Jr. Vice Commandant Russ Tolchard was excused from that meeting. A motion was made by Jesse Trevino and second by Danna Cummings to accept the minutes as corrected. Motion carried. b. Paymasters’ Report: Motion to accept the report for Apr 2010 was made by John Wolcott and seconded by Jesse Trevino. The motion was carried.
REPORTS: Sgt at Arms: Todd’s wife who is a SSGT in the Marine Corps will be assigned to the San Luis Obispo recruiting office when she finishes her recruiter’s training. Chaplains: Bob reported that a card is being passed around for signatures, to be sent to John O’Connell who has had back surgery. Committee Reports: a. MC Ball 2010: Tom reported that a committee meeting was held, and everyone was given their assignments. At the present time the committee is in the process of picking a caterer. b. Toys for Tots: Barbara Wolcott reported that things are going well. All 12 districts are doing fine. She said donations were up, and there is a need for more volunteers. c. Ray Bacon is taking charge of coordinating the trip to the Ronald Regan Library. The tentative month for the trip is Sept or Oct. d. Ushering at Cal Poly: Betty Cook reported she had heard from Cal Poly and that we would be asked to usher again this coming Football Season. So far there are only 4 scheduled home games. A signup sheet will be passed around at the next meeting. New Business: 1. Reminder: Veterans Appreciation Day in Mitchell Park will start at 12:00 PM on Friday May 28th. The CCL Honor Guard is to muster at 11:30 am. Awards will be presented to Purple Heart recipients and the Veteran of the year award will be presented by Sam Blakeslee. 2. Jim Brenton said all those who are going to be a part of the Memorial Day activities out in Los Osos need to muster by 10:00 am. Our very own Chuck Ward is the quest speaker. After Los Osos the other activities that we are involved will take place at the Village in San Luis Obispo, Lost at Sea on the Cayucos Pier, and at Cuesta later in the day around 5:30PM Good of the League and Announcements: Dana Cummings reminded the group of the upcoming Ampsurf events scheduled June 3-6. Bob is setting up our next Dining-In. He has contacted the Marriott in Paso Robles regarding the function there on June 13th. So save that date. The final details (menu and cost) will be announced at the next meeting which is June 8th. John Belair will be bringing design T shirts for sale to the next meeting (cost are $30 and $35) 50/50 Drawing: $26 went to the treasury and $25 was won by Jim Hawkins. Todd Fredericks won a ball cap and John Belair won Detachment T shirts.
